The Tax Commissioner is elected by the voters for four year terms. The Tax Commissioner is responsible for preparing the annual tax digest, mailing approximately 12,000 property tax bills, 32,000 motor vehicle tag pre-bills and 1,500 mobile home bills to county residents, collecting all county, Board of Education, and state property taxes, recording intangible taxes, selling county and city motor vehicle license plates, transferring vehicle titles, and issuing county and city mobile home decals.

Special License Plate Fee Changes

Due to changes to House Bill 1055 Special License Plate fees have changed. The Department of Revenue will implement the following changes:

• All pre-bill recipients for May and June will be assessed at the pre-bill rate stated on the pre-bill.
• New owners or persons changing license plate types will be assessed at the new fee rate.
• July pre-bills will reflect the increased fee rates.
