The county's certified fire department is responsible for protecting all county, Leesburg, and Smithville citizens and their property from fire, natural, and manmade hazards.

As the county's EMA Director, the Fire Chief also organizes and operates the county's emergency management system and trains the county's paid and volunteer firemen and rescue units.

This department maintains five manned and three unmanned county fire stations, nine county fire trucks and onboard equipment, one emergency response truck, and two county boats.
